Kriol Bible Translation Project

The Belize Kriol Bible Translation Project is an activity of the Belize Kriol Project. Several trained Creoles are in the process of translation the Holy Scriptures into Kriol. As of December, 1998, 15% of the New Testament has been translated. In December, 1998, a cassette entitled “Di Birt a Jeezas” was released by the Project. It contains Scripture portions of Isaiah, Matthew, Luke, and Hebrews related to the birth of Jesus Christ. The portions are presented by dramatic readings and set to an appropriate Creole music score. The cassette comes with a script for the listener to read along with the tape. Tapes are available in many book and music stores in Belize City.

Listen to someone read the following Bible text in Belize Kriol

“He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.” Luke1:51-53

Below is side-by-side comparison of Ephesians 1:1-10 in Kriol and English:

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
